There's Clarity again. I'm not sure if this is one of the Big Ideas you cite here, or whether you just mentioned the need to get clear on what you want as part of the process of combating excuse-itis, but my sensors picked up on it,
ACTION CURES FEAR! That's a big one! And you say he wrote that 50+ years ago! Classic.

Awsome ideas, thanks again, reading a life changing book in the moment and it's from Susan Jeffers: "Feel the fear and do it anyway" a must read for everyone how wants to face his fears head on.

yah, that book rocks, sami!!!
Fear is a complex reality of life. Fear is complex because it is inborn, and acquire through conditioning. The capacity to handle fear is not, in my view, uniform across the general population. Siblings reared in identical environment, with the same coaching, instruction, and role models can display a range of abilities to confront and handle fear. There are clearly particular fears certain individuals will never master, even with excellent coaching and practice.
I agree, without reservation, that the techniques alluded to in the video are very useful, worthy of exploring, and practiced assiduously. That is perhaps the only way to discover that which a given individual can reasonable confront. I seriously doubt that any amount of grounded preparation will achieve the ability to acclimate a given individual to every personal challenge. This fact warrants citing. There are limits to what an individual can attain.
Moreover, 'merely' confronting ones fear is potentially dangerous, if not life threatening. Therefore a high degree of self-knowledge is a necessary requisite. The profound effort required to achieve real self-knowledge sufficient to understand and confront fear generally, and particular fears specifically must be realized and acknowledged. I graciously offer this view for consideration.
thx for your gracious offer, john!
clearly the issue of fear is a nuanced one worthy of a much broader discussion than can be created in a quick Big Idea in a 10 minute video and I appreciate your distinctions. (altho i think the most important thing is less about the intellectual understanding of these issues and more about reflecting on and LIVING our highest truths.)
i love Aristotle's wonderfully grounded approach to fear in his discussion on the virtuous mean that I chat about briefly here: http://www.philosophersnotes.com/ideas/show/arist...
in terms of the genetic relationship to personal development and, specifically, levels of happiness we can attain vis-a-vis a pre-determined genetic set point, I *love* sonja lyubomirsky's discussion of the science behind it in her great book, the how of happiness: http://www.philosophersnotes.com/notes/all/the-ho...
I also really dig rollo may's discussion of the role of courage in the creative process that you might dig: http://www.philosophersnotes.com/notes/all/the-co...
and, as a general rule, i do believe that the more we face our fears, the better. and, i've definitely experienced the truth of this in my life: "action cures fear. Indecision, postponement, on the other hand, fertilize fear..."
Hi Brian,
am a new admirer of your topic,"Magic of thinking BIG". First of all I would like to congratulate you for this noble idea and the results it's producing.
Am an african fellow residing and working in Dubai for the past 8 years. My life, since last year has become the complete opposite of my dreams, am therefore wondering if the "THINKING BIG" could really change my way of living despite the recession factor that the all world is still going through.
Am a sales executive in the Shipping industry, lost my job last year august, but can't still find one. While thinking big, would you give me few additional tips on how to handle my situation before I loose hope and go back to africa......... GOD BLESS YOUR WORK!

“The Magic of Thinking Big” by David Schwartz
I am currently reading this book. Many rules are supposedly necessary to experience the Magic of Thinking Big.
To think Big:
We must believe in ourselves to believe Big! Then, we must Take Action to overcome the fear that is holding us back.
What am I avoiding that deters me from my success? Again, I wonder: Am I waiting for all the lights to be green before I start my journey? Perfection stymies ‘good enough’,
Think BIG now, then take the smaller steps necessary to accomplish your dream and be triumphant!
The issue of stick ability is really valid as mentioned in the book. "Sticking to something and getting the task done is better than idle intelligence even if it of genius caliber".
In addition i have the following comments:
1. I feel at a sightly higher level that this has something to do with emotional intelligence of a person especially pertaining to qualities such as delaying gratification for the amount of work put in now and ability to continue in the presence of disappointments and frustrations.
2. I feel at a still slightly higher level it also has something to do with our spiritual intelligence of a person, especially pertaining to the qualities such as following your heart and chasing your dreams ( in this case journey itself becomes as blissful as the destination that the issues with stick ability and emotional intelligence becomes a non issue). Just to mention the other benefit of a higher spiritual quotient is the ability to effortlessly override social, religious orders with the inner ideas and decisions (mostly common sense and Inner awareness) which results in a much higher levels of love, peace and joy in life.
Hi Brian - The suggestion - action to reduce fear - is great advice. Timely as well.
I did want to suggest that you read the closed caption words for your talk - because the words are very wrong!! In fact,, they read like a comedy or spoof. So you might want to change them for the hearing impaired.
Thanks for the inpiration. Keep up the good work!
