In this PN TV episode we'll explore some of George Leonard's Big Ideas on "Mastery"--ranging from the importance of diligence (patience and persistence!) to the pitfalls of masters (a couple: obsessive goal setting and laziness). Hope you dig it and here's to mastery!

“Mastery” by George Leonard
Thanks again for this episode of Big Ideas on “Mastery”.
Once again I am reminded to find where I am on this path. Am I moving in the right direction? Or, am I off in some other direction as a Dabbler, Obsessor, or Hacker, as described in the book?
Today, I will resume my improvement even if conditions aren’t perfect and I’ll change my homeostatic point even if it does move outside my comfort zone.
Thanks Brian. Love the big ideas on " Mastery". The balance between being the obsessive and the lazy, and to remember not to take things too much seriously. When we enjoy what we are doing it helps to be more patient and to continue with what we started.
Hey Brian, you are truly masterful at bringing the teachings of these master heart-artists to light. I am ever dubious of the latest and the greatest, but your work is the real deal and allows one such as me-- who is not the best reader but loves the learnings-- to imbibe and absorb. Thank you for your vision of the offererings of these visionaries!
Good day Brian. Being in the healthcare field, the topic of "Homeostasis" caught my attention. There is so much to consider regarding the many different aspects that influence ones condition that I thought you did an outstanding job in relating but a few factors that would directly influence ones condition/position. I will have to revisit this posting (like many before this) again and again to extract all the wisdom contained within.
Once again, well done
“Mastery” by George Leonard: a revisit:
Behave like an athlete.
For example, warm up before the task—take a few deep breaths, or a short, silent meditation to get into the zone and reach the mind set to begin.
Relax enough to visualize the next step to completion. Overcome discouragement and follow the Master’s Path to avoid becoming a Dabbler, an Obsessor or a Hacker.
You are on your way.
Practicing these principals in life on a consistent basis is very challenging. And, yes, the "backsliding" to homeostasis is disheartening, when we feel discouraged, but I have also learned that by using that "backslide" as a lesson I am better able to grow. My expression has become "mistakes are rungs on the ladder to success!" Love the philosophers notes and use them in my daily life, imperfectly of course!
Brian, I can't tell you how important having the Philosophers notes coming at me every day, it's completely transformed my life - even when I have a "down" day (actually by virtue of the unfortunate Pavlov's Dog's syndrome of expecting things to go wrong) I am able to train myself BACK to my TRUE self - with such wonderful added wisdom to armour myself with. Thank you!
